ABOUT

Umthiomkhulu Ensemble, Afro-jazz group features

Mthimkhulu Stuurman - trombone, Bongani Nikelo - bass, Mzwakhe Cekiso - piano, Nicholas Dlakavu - drums, Lebo Komane - trumpet , Esihle Valela - saxophone

Mthimkhulu is a South African based trombonist with over 3 years' experience in African Spiritual Jazz.

He was influenced by Dr Johnny Mekoa who introduced him to jazz music and was later inspired by Malcom Jiyane. Mthimkhulu's love for African spiritual jazz is from his belief in ancestors.

He has worked with majority of South African and international musicians, including Dr Johnny Mekoa, Prince Lengoasa, Mthunzi Mvubu, The Spam All Stars, The Temptations, Luyolo Lenga, Dj Ed Noodles, Imbewu Marimba Community and The Amazing Thailand Band. 

He has performed at The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, US Embassy, Germany Embassy, Gaborone Convention Centre, AfrikaBurn and Expo Centre.

Mthimkhulu is the founder of UmuthiOmkhulu Ensemble and he is working on his Debut album.
