Alien & Invasive Species in Protected Areas Information Day

Living in such a unique and valuable area, the protection of its biodiversity goes without saying, and there are some formidable challenges. One of these is the ever-present threat of Invasive Alien species. If you have lived here for a while, you will be all too familiar with names like Pompom, Verbena and Lantana. You will more than likely have had your fair share of trying to get rid of them, and you may think that by now you know just about everything there is to know on the subject. Think again! The landscape is ever changing, as is what we know about it, and how we should live in it. Whether you are new to living in a protected environment, or an old hand at it, whether you are a landowner, resident, employee or merely passionate about conservation we invite you to come and learn from the experts. 

Together, at one presentation, we have specialists from the DFFE, GDARDE and the Magaliesberg Biosphere, all willing to share with us their expertise and knowledge. The presentation will be followed by a short walk through the veld to help us understand in practical terms what we are looking for and what we need to do about it. A light lunch will be provided after the walk, giving everyone the chance to catch up with neighbours, or even make some new acquaintances. 

This is your chance to learn about new approaches to dealing with the invasive aliens, the legislation that helps to protect what we hold so dear, and what it means to live in a protected area. It's also the perfect time to ask those questions you may have shelved, not knowing where to go for the answers. 

This event will be taking place at the Four Wheel Drive Club of SA on Saturday the 19th of August at 10h00 until 13h00. Registration will open at 9h00. Please make sure you allow enough time just to book in as the proceedings will start at 10am sharp. Attendance is free but for the purpose of catering and seating booking is essential.
