For his portrayal of Flynn, the heavyweight boxer shadowed by the legacy of his father, who was also a boxer, Daniel Newton received a Fleur du Cap award. In this production, Flynn rages and fights against the past, his father’s bigotry and his own ideas about masculinity. He punches like a man who has nothing to lose. Shadow Boxing is a story about sexuality and self-confrontation – filled with moments of anger, but also tenderness.
