ABOUT
Oom Schalk Lourens is alive and well. Yes, he may be found telling Herman Charles Bosman
stories in the Masque Theatre this winter on Friday, August 4th at 8pm. Directed by the
perspicacious Celia Musikanth, the seasoned Cape Town actor, David Muller, having taken
over from Patrick Mynhardt and is bringing his innovative and unusual production home to
Muizenberg, for one show only. A whole 90 minutes of Bosman stories mixed with merry
mirth and the magnificent art of sculpting. It's like watching two shows wrapped in one.
"Unusual because it's never been done before... in Cape Town" says Muller, "Well known
South African Sculptor, Johan Steyn, is joining me on stage with his form of first-rate, first-
class visual art, sculpting."
The staging of Oom Schalk and the Sculptor combines physical with visual art. While Steyn
sculpts Muller, as Oom Schalk, tells stories. What Johan will sculpt on stage remains as a
surprise for the audience.
"All I can say is that the piece of work not only ties in with Bosman's best stories but will be
completed by the time I have finished the last tale," explains the actor.
The Masque Theatre is pleased to be the first in Cape Town to stage Oom Schalk and the
Sculptor on Friday August 4th at 8pm. Tickets are R140 discounted to R100 for pensioners,
Students and block booking of ten or more. To book for this extraordinary, out of the
