Eve Fairbanks: The Inheritors

American journalist Eve Fairbanks talks to Marianne Thamm about The Inheritors, which she worked on for 12 years and which has since been awarded the PEN-John Kenneth Galbraith Prize for non-fiction. She interweaves the stories of three ordinary citizens over five tumultuous decades to reveal what really happens when a country decides to end white supremacy. She finds unexpected contradictions and humanity, uncovers the personal nature of anger, and wonders if one can live honourably in a society that no longer recognises you.
