RIDE FOR A CHILD

&

WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT 2024

The most motorbikes riding in staggered formation as a single group in support of sick Children.

February 2024 will be our 5th ride for a child 7000 km charity motorbike ride around South Africa, to collect funds for poor children's surgeries and medical treatment. We need you, the biker community to make our 5th "Ride for a Child" bike ride a world record breaking event.

The name of this world record attempt is: “Ride for a Child”.

On Saturday the 24th February 2024 Pediatric care Africa request all motorbike clubs, motorbike organizations and bike riders in the Western, Eastern Capes and South Africa to please join Dr André Hattingh in this planned massive bike ride in staggered formation, from 50km before the Caltex Mentors Plaza between Storms River and Jeffreys Bay on the N2.

To establish this record, we need a minimum of 4500 motorbikes to ride as one group in staggered formation, for the last 50km to Jeffreys bay for this world record attempt, and we will formally lodge our record attempt with RecordSetters in the USA.

The record attempt will be screened on several South African TV stations including in Australia.

Plan:

We have a two-pronged approach with bike groups approaching the rendezvous/starting point from both the West and the East on the N2.

Western bike groups will approach Jeffreys Bay from the Cape Town/George side (West) on the N2 where the first group of record attempt Bikers, will congregate and depart at 07h30 on the N2 highway from the N2 Sasol garage in George, so that everyone can fill up with fuel at Storms River again if needed. We will stop in Storms River to fill up if needed, and to time our arrival at the bikers waiting at the start point accurately.

This procession approaching from the West will be joined by riders en route coming from Oudtshoorn and beyond, Knysna, Plettenburg Bay, Storms River and other parts of South Africa and the idea is that we meet up with the biker groups coming from the East such as PE, Grahamstown, and East London on the N2 at the road marker N2-9 72, OE 50km before the Caltex Mentors Plaza, on the N2 towards George where the actual official world record attempt will begin. Bikers approaching from the East can fill up in Jefferys bay if needed before continuing to the start point.

The road marker N2-9 72, 0E on the N2 is the exact starting point 50km before Jeffreys Bay between Jeffreys Bay and Storms River. Bikers start congregating on the N2 behind the N2-9 72, OE marker towards Storms River from 10h00 just after the road is closed for cars by the traffic department. We intend to start the world record attempt ride at 12h00 and the last motorbike is expected to arrive at the end point between 13h00 and 14h00 as the road must be reopened for normal traffic just after 14h00.

There will be clear markings, flags, and officials at the starting point (Road Marker: N2-9 72, 0E) and bikes will be requested to park behind the marker towards Storms River at a 45-degree angle between the yellow line and the side of the road, to make pulling away as seamless as possible.

A marked Pediatric Care Africa support vehicle will pass all parked motor bikes 5 minutes before departure, giving them the helmets on and please be seated on your bike instruction.

We will be a large group of motorbikes approaching from the George direction (West), preceded by law enforcement officers and will drive slowly (40km per hour) past the row of parked motorcycles parked participating in the world record attempt at the road marker N2-9 72, 0E 50km before Caltex Mentors Plaza at 12h00.

As you hear or see us approaching from Storms River direction, all bikes must be started and be ready to fall in and become part of the convoy.

As the last bike in the group from George passes the first bike in the parked row, the first parked bike from the back will fall in behind the slow passing group, to prevent us from stopping or causing a bottle neck.

As the group passes bikes will fall in behind, resulting in the bike that was parked first behind the marker at the start point, will be the last bike to fall in forming one single group of motorbikes and riders.

We will speed up and ride at a steady 50km per hour once everyone is in staggered position and is riding with.

This speed is required as we need to give the officials on the bridge/s we will pass under, time to count every individual bike in the convoy and the TV cameras to film the bikes passing underneath.

Safety officers, traffic officers, MC marshals and the police will accompany us the whole 50km distance ensuring our safety and the safety of the spectators.

We expect the line of bikes to reach up to 48km in length depending on how much of the road surface we will be allowed to use, as we ride on the N2 towards Jeffreys Bay, so please ensure you have enough fuel for at least 100km as the last bike would have travelled +40km before it reaches the start marker then another 50km to the finish line at Mentors Kraal.

There are several bridges that can be used to turn around on for bikers approaching from the East, to enable you to safely join us at the start point and for spectators to stand on.

We ask all bike clubs participating in this world record attempt, to assist us with marshalling and to assist struggling or novice bikers that may need a bit of a helping hand.

Enough parking for 5500 motor bikes, toilets, a large music festival, food stalls and beer will be available and waiting for us in Jefferys Bay at our end point at Mentors Country Estate, Jeffreys bay (https://www.mentorskraal.co.za) which we will reach around 13h00.

There will be a church service held on Sunday morning, for those who wish to attend church.

Throughout Jefferys bay, discounted accommodation rates will be available at lodges, guest houses and Hotels to participants that wish to stay the night in Jeffreys Bay including at Mentors Country Estate, so please book your room early.

We ask that all Presidents and National Presidents of MCC/MC in the Western and Eastern Cape and South Africa and individual motor bike riders throughout SA, to please book Saturday the 24th February 2024 in your diaries, and to join our effort to help sick underprivileged children and establish a world record in the process. We ride for the sick children that does not receive the medical treatment they deserve and with your participation they can receive the help they need.
