The Tall Tree(s) of Tankwa Town – TTToTT

Welcome to our fundraising campaign to plant a tree in the Tankwa Karoo desert at AfrikaBurn!

As many of you know, AfrikaBurn is an annual gathering of artists, performers, and creative minds who come together to celebrate the spirit of community and self-expression in the Tankwa Karoo desert. While this event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with others and enjoy the unique beauty of the desert, it can also be an extremely harsh environment, with temperatures soaring well over 35°C degrees Fahrenheit during the day.

That's why we want to plant a tree at AfrikaBurn - to provide a shaded oasis where participants can find shelter from the heat, relax, connect with others, and enjoy the beauty of the desert. We also envision this tree as a gathering point for Mutant vehicles to stop and have spontaneous parties, and for burners to come together and dance into the sunset and under the stars.

The only problem? There are no trees in the Tankwa Karoo desert! But with your help, we can change that. We want to plant a tree and grow it to a substantial size, so that it can provide shade and shelter for many generations to come.

Of course, planting a tree in the desert is no easy feat. We need to find a way to water the tree without being present in the desert, and that means digging a borehole and using solar-powered pumps to transport water to the tree.

But we believe that with your help, we can make this dream a reality. We are looking to raise funds to cover the cost of planting the tree, digging the borehole, and installing the solar-powered pumps needed to transport water to the tree. We estimate that this will cost ZAR 100,000, but any amount you can donate will bring us closer to our goal.

We have identified several potential trees that could thrive in the desert environment, including Acacia, Vachellia Karroo, and Olinia Ventosa. These trees are hardy and can survive in harsh conditions, making them the perfect choice for our project.
