Dizu Plaatjies

Ass. Prof Dizu Plaatjies (AKA Bra D) is a Xhosa musician best known for being the founder and former leader of the South African group, Amampondo. He is a graduate of the South African College of Music, University of Cape Town where he lectures in African Music.

He is revered for his wealth of knowledge and history of African musics, and his influence in promoting indigenous Xhosa instruments, musics and traditions accross world stages. It is a huge honour and privilege for us at The Commons to have this living musical icon hold space and take us on another historic sonic journey of African musics.
