About

Gauteng Transplant Sports Association (GTSA) is a regional member of the South African Transplant Sports Association. The Association aims to promote an active lifestyle of people who have undergone a life-saving transplant. The association encourages involvement in various sporting activities of transplant recipients at local, regional and national level. The South African Transplant Sports Association is a member of the World Transplant Games Federation and is recognised by the Department of Sport and Recreation in South Africa, is a non-profit organization and are exempt from paying income tax (Fund- raising (NPO) No: 004-595). The South Africa Transplant Sports Association is an Affiliated Member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).


Gauteng Transplant Sports Association continues to hold the largest membership of all regions who fall under the banner of SATSA. Our membership includes members from Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North-West Province and the Free State. In addition to regional activities, GTSA has had athletes participate at the National Transplant Games, which occurs every second year, alternating with the World Transplant Games. The World Transplant Games (WTG) is held every two years and South Africa has been participating since 1993. In 1997 the Team was, for the first time, awarded South African colours. South Africa , for the first time, participated in the Winter World Transplant Games held in France in January 2010. Gauteng Transplant has proudly sent athletes from the region to the World Transplant Games.
