Keanan Eksteen & Kontras - LIVE at Aandklas

Keanan Eksteen will be gracing the Aandklas stage on the 18th of March. With support from Kontras, this is one show you definitely don't want to miss.

Keanan Eksteen:

Keanan Eksteen is a 22 year old South African singer/songwriter that has recently burst onto the scene with his toe tapping, hip shaking, exciting tunes making waves across the country. He is young, energetic and his brand of music blends old school rock ‘n roll with a twist of the new to keep things fresh.  

“Dixie Clouds” , the first single released on the 19th of March has already been streamed over 80 000 times on Spotify. The song is play-listed on 17 Radio stations across South Africa and it reached the number one position on the Laeveld radio chart. The music video for Dixie Clouds hit over 410 000 views within 8 months of release and it is also playlisted on KykNet, a national TV channel.   

On the 22 July a 6 track EP called “FOREVER” was released and shortly thereafter Keanan completed a 13 stop, one month tour of Europe to promote the EP with shows in Germany, France and Austria.   

Keanan has played shows at various venues in Cape Town, with many more lined up. He has also appeared on the Expresso show, which is a national morning TV show broadcast to millions of viewers and more recently he sang with Goldfish at Kirstenbosch to debut “Sing with me” a song that he co-wrote with them. “Sing with me” is due to be released on the 10th of February. 

Keanan is currently in the process of recording a full length album due for release in mid 2023. 

Kontras:

A band that formed between classes at the University of Stellenbosch, Kontras made their debut in early 2019 when Jacques Groenewald (vocals), Daniël Botha (drums), Andrew Veldman (lead guitar) and Louwrens Labuschagne (bass guitar) realised that there is a distinct lack of genuineness in Afrikaans music. Over the next 2 years, they released Side A and Side B, which included Middelklas Middelman. This song put Kontras on the map, getting widespread support from Afrikaans is Groot, KykNET, Huisgenoot, MaroelaMedia, Sterre, Afrikaanse Musiek Nuus, Texx and the City, Plektrum Musiek and many more. Kontras has received more than 90 000 plays on digital streaming platforms and it’s still growing. Kontras’ music can be heard nationwide on radio stations such as GrootFM, BayFM, HosaRadio, BokRadio, OneFM, MFM 92.6, KovsieFM, LekkerFM, Radio Overberg, GrindRadio and TreffersFM.

Met hul unieke talent wat inderdaad in kontras is met so baie afgewaterde Afrikaanse musiek wat al menige oordrom of twee al laat bars het, is dit geen wonder dat Kontras se invloede strek vanaf punk, pop-punk, alternatiewe musiek en nog meer nie. 'n Groep wat verseker met geen andere vergelyk kan word nie!

Not too shy on the live music event scene, Kontras has played several festivals including Rocking Stellies, The International Tequila Festival, and I Love Stellies where they've shared the stage with the likes of Fokofpolisiekar, Jack Parow, The Plastics, Willim Welsyn, The Kiffness, Straatligkinders, Early B, Van Pletzen, YoungstaCPT, Tasché, and Die Heuwels Fantasties to name but a few.
