ABOUT

The Shaman/healer archetype

He/she has to descend to the Underworld, to be annihilated, to surrender, to seize certain gifts and re-emerge in this world with new powers of vision, healing and understanding. The shaman has spoken with the gods, and they have breathed a new life into him/her, and sent him/ her back again….it is the Hero’s journey.

Shaman/healer Archetype Characteristics & Traits:

  • Has undergone a physical or metaphorical re-birth process.
  • Sensitivity to both the earthly and spiritual realms
  • Storyteller and keeper of a sacred history and knowledge.
  • Believes in the importance of dreams, symbols and synchronicities in providing insight and information.
  • Guardian of souls, able to carry out spiritual retrievals of souls of those lost to the ‘underworld’ as though they are a midwife between the 'worlds'.
  • Creative and visionary, with a fertile imagination, heightened psychic senses and a propensity for manifestation and shapeshifting.
  • May work with plants, animals, totems, talismans, energy, sound, frequency, dance, ritual and ceremony, altered states of and consciousness.

We will dance with the intention of inviting this archetypal energy into our fields, to activate or enhance the qualities we already embody, so that we are better able to emerge from the ‘underworld’ and become our own 'healers', for ourselves, our loved ones and the world at large.

Paul Boyter will accompany the dance on percussion and gift us a special shamanic drum journey for the integration phase after the dance (see below for benefits).

Drum therapy...

“It’s no coincidence that every culture around the world has made ritual use of a drum. Intrinsically we are rhythmic creatures who find comfort and elation through the various impulses of the drum - a reminder of the first 9 months of our lives. Ritual based drumming (shamanic) played in a fast-paced 4-6 beats per second has the ability to profoundly alter brain states and reduce inflammation.

Science is showing evidence for the healing power of this simple instrument, in how it helps in fortifying and increasing natural killer T cells that fight cancers and viruses. It is of great help in rebuilding the brain after any neurological impairment, achieved through the harmonization of the brains hemispherical impulses - which individually operate at different levels and rates.

The natural sounds of the drum played live in a consistent manner allow participants to be completely absorbed in the steady pulse, encapsulating individuals on an inward journey of healing – physical, mental and spiritual”.
