Beekeeper start-up business in Gugulethu

About

The Seaboard-Guglethu CAN was established on the 24th of March 2020, the eve of South Africa’s Covid-19 lockdown. Concerned residents rapidly found each other and started mobilising to support vulnerable people in our neighbourhoods and our networks. Therefore the CAN (Cape Action Network) was formed. Areas around Cape Town were paired together, and Seaboard thus became the Gugulethu-Seaboard CAN.

Vuyo Myoli, a certified beekeeper in Gugulethu, has been working together with us since the beginning of lockdown. Vuyo is an amazing and talented individual, very motivated to mentor and nurture the Gugulethu community to learn the skill of beekeeping so that he can employ them in his business. And not to just make honey, but honey related products too, thereby creating more income opportunities for everyone involved.

"Vuyo Myoli is the name, a "Farmer by day, Artist by night". I am from Gugulethu in the Western Cape, South Africa, a low income township. I have been passionate about bees since I was very young and I'm proud to say that since 2020 I have been a certified beekeeper.

Besides my desire to set myself up as a beekeeping business, I am also looking forward to teaching people of all ages in my community about the importance of bees and preserving them for our future. People in general are not aware that bees are in danger of becoming extinct and how dangerous this is for our planet. I also am passionate about encouraging youngsters to become involved so that the next generation can play a part in saving bees".

Get a bee in your bonnet! Sponsor a beehive and support Vuyo to start-up his beekeeping business, thereby empowering an underserved community to grow food and bolster their local ecology and economy.

Please support Vuyo with a R3000 per beehive (includes one bee swarm, one bee hive, transport and some necessary beekeeping items).

If not possible for you, then anything towards that will be very much appreciated.

At least twenty five beehives are needed to establish Vuyo this pollination season so that next season (2022) he can begin to turn a profit.

The safety and future of bees is in our hands, cherish them before they perish!
