Revamping our Library

About

We are revamping our library after 15yrs. It's a necessary initiative that is long overdue. Learners need a space to reflect, engage, learn, be creative and more importantly allow them to become and contribute to their own community first. Which in turn will, recognize and acknowledge to engage the world more meaningfully. Crucial to any educational institute is its library and its operational effectiveness, thereof. If we want to be part of the global trend, we need to transform our library into a functional space, a smart space of formal and informal engagements, we will have to embrace the multilayered purpose of such a space (Library) and the integration of technology thereof. As we adapt to new technologies and the way we do things, the library committee see the need to build a sustainable model – a library that will be able to run on its own. Therefore, we at Modderdam High, are on a continuous quest to change our unsatisfactory situations or conditions. Learners and community will appreciate enjoy the proposed aesthetic space with the objective to be inspired, motivated, and to do better, and be better. For only if you know better, you will be in a position to do better. Finally, the library committee, supported by management and staff are fully aware of the importance to be a beacon of hope to the learners of Bonteheuwel and the surrounding areas. It is with the above, that we find it necessary to call on all like-minded individuals, leaders, corperates, business fraternity, to contribute to this important and worthy initiative. What will the new proposed smart library space offer: Access to reading material and more, Books – English / Afrikaans / Xhosa, Periodicals, Magazines, Printing facility, Journals, Audio Visual aids, Access to the internet (existing already 100% connectivity), Computers/tablets, News papers, Screening of documentaries / educative movies / educative videos, Training – research, Workshops – enabling skills, computer and other, Home venue for chess club, Could introduce a space for other technological related initiatives – robotics, app development and coding, Literacy program – reading program, Identify volunteer within the school and the community.
