TSWELELANG CULTURAL DANCERS

About

Tswelelang Cultural Dancers has initiated a Letsema programme in the rural communities within which its members reside. Letsema is a Setswana term which denotes selfless participation by a group of community individuals in the uplifting of your community, without seeking any reward. Our Letsema programme has thus far focused on three key areas such as;

COMMUNITY DISASTERS

·         Assisting in the rebuilding of homestead structures that have been damaged by adverse weather conditions

·         Providing further material support to the elderly from affected families

·         Linking the elderly people with Departments of Social Development and Home Affairs to get their identity documents in order as well as to receive social services relevant to their needs

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

·         Assisting primary school learners from needy families with school shoes

·         Utilising the medium of theatre, music, dance, storytelling and the culture of reading to engage school going youth with extra mural activities which empower them to act against crime and associated social ills as well as equip them with relevant skills in the arts

·         Offer workshops aimed at young people to raise awareness against indulging in drugs and related harmful substances, teenage pregnancies, crime and illiteracy

·         We further inspire young men through these workshops to be meaningful citizens in their families and community who respect the elderly, women and children whilst also inculcating the culture of seeking honour in honest work and social responsibility.

COMMUNITY THEATRE

·          We utilise the medium of theatre to provide the much needed acting, dance, writing, music, reading and debating skills to school going youth.

·         Such an activity which we offer for free as extracurricular activity also ensures that our young people participate in meaningful programmes which discourage laziness, crime, disrespect and related social ills.
