Building Functional Boys

Brut and Blemished is a registered non-profit organization. Our main aim is to Build Functional Boys from dysfunctional homes through publishing children’s books and creating games that have content that matters. We publish books that will minimize the Evolution of Toxic Masculinity, creating a safer place for both the girl and the boy child. In the process encourage a love for reading and writing. We live by what Frederick Douglass once said “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men”

Toxic masculinity poses a great threat in our communities. Unchecked toxic masculinity often leads to a severe and negative impact on the boy child. Toxic masculinity breeds Gender-Based Violence and Street Gangsterism and Bullying. As boys grow up they look to society for gender cues and roles. If we do not build functional boys the cycle and evolution of toxic masculinity poses a great threat to our future generation. If we do not build functional boys the girl child empowerment is in vain. If we do not build functional boys our GBV stats will never decrease, gangsterism will never be a thing of the past, and Bullying in our schools and community will continue. We believe that Prevention is better than cure, by solving the problem at an early stage.

We will be preventing young boys from becoming dangerous adult men. In most cases, many organizations Come up with Programs that mostly benefit the Girl Child. While it is imperative to empower the girl we believe that girl child empowerment can work best if we also deal with factors that disempower the girl child. The success of the girl child empowerment movement depends on what we do (building Functional boys). When we build functional boys, empowered girls will thrive more. We are what the country needs right now, in light of the growing numbers of Gender-Based Violence, street gangsterism, and bullying.

Our organization, [Brut and Blemished Foundation] is actively trying to create solutions and solve the problems that our communities and schools are facing by distributing Building Functional Boys Pack that consist of (Building Prince Yakha’s Character book, Socks to keep them warm this winter, underwears for hygiene purposes and a toy). We have identified 10 000 underprivileged boys from Opharnages and Township Primary school. We’re hoping to raise even more! Our goal is R3 800 000 for underwears, toys, socks.
