After hundreds of performances across the country over a period of almost three years, and an unforgettable run at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, new life is blown into Die Naaimasjien

Sitting in her room at the old-age home, Magdaleen cleans every part of her sewing machine, because she has sold it, and the woman on the phone said that she will be there to collect it at three this afternoon. While she carefully cleans this constant companion of the past 55 years, her thoughts wander to her husband and children, the days when her father was still king on his own farm and to the innocence of a time that no longer exists, which may never have existed. Magdaleen knows that the elderly are not foolish, but that their intellect is sewn into the lining of another era.  With compassion and humour, Magdaleen takes viewers back to a time of milk deliveries, stockings with seams, haberdasheries and milk separators. And she reminds us that a mother - like a babushka doll - is hidden within each of her children.
