ABOUT

Welcome to the 6th Annual Knysna Blues Festival.

From humble beginnings, the Blues festival is now a must see-and-hear event on Knysna's calendar, featuring the creme-de-la-creme of South Africa's Blues and Blues-inspired musicians – live and in person!

Michael Canfield

We need a whole other page to talk about this USA-born (now truly South African) singer-songwriter. A legendary drummer, Michael will grace us with not only a brilliant act, but dispense heaps of knowledge, wisdom and humour too: He's our MC for this year's event!

BlackWater SA

Formed in 2015, this talented trio features established musicians Martin Botha ( guitar and vocals), Hannes van Wyk (Bass) and Stefan Nel (drums). They have their own unique style, a blend of genres inspired predominantly by guitar-driven, old school blues - or “Blues for the working man” as they often describes it Martin Botha’s vocals are deep, dirty, gutsy and raw and BlackWater’s performances are filled with such sincere emotion that it’s clear music is a passionate priority for all. The band presents a powerful rhythm section, raw guitar tones and commanding vocals. Their live act is impressive too and is supported by a fantastic album, titled Leavin’ the Station, which showcases BlackWater’s ability and versatility.

Andra

Between moments of excessive coffee consumption, marveling at her dog - Banjo, daydreaming and waiting for good ideas, Andra writes songs, records some of them and occasionally plays them in front of people. Originally from Namibia, she is now (for now) residing in Pretoria, South Africa. She has been making music independently, full time for twelve years (not really counting 2020, of course), performing both locally and abroad. She serves the Songs so that the Songs serve the listener.

The Blues Broers

Since the launch of their seventh album ‘Into the Red’ in 2014 the Blues Broers performed at the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in Grahamstown, appeared on the major TV networks, produced a sold-out show at Pretoria’s Atterbury Theatre, and featured on the Durban International Blues Festival, the Table Mountain Blues Summit, the Up the Creek and the annual Boxing Day Blues Festival. They feature at boutique events where they showcase their skills, performing a selection from their wealth of original and standard tunes. They never disappoint!

Georgetown

Georgetown is a multi-instrumental bluebilly folk band from Pretoria South Africa. Formed in February 2014, the talented Michael de Villiers, Renaldo van Dyk, Rynier Prins, Tebogo Mokoena and Tiaan Erasmus, have told their stories and shared their rhythms across mainstages, theatres and towns. With their roots planted in the diverse Southern Africa, Georgetown is a captivating hybrid of the classics and unique local influences. They bring audiences together with the use of a variety of musical instruments during their performances, including acoustic guitar, piano, upright bass, mandolin, harmonica, saxophone and a vintage suitcase kick-drum, promising a distinctive and creative sound to contemporary and original folk music.

Basson Laubscher and The Violent Fee Peace

Dubbed South Africa’s Rory Gallagher, Basson Laubscher is one talented musician. Born and raised in Stellenbosch, Basson fell in love with music! At the tender age of 10 he started playing guitar and has never looked back. During his high school career he met fellow band member Bertie Coetzee and helped form one of South Africa’s most loved bands, Zinkplaat who performed at all of South Africa's most loved festivals for over 10 years! After the band split, Basson knew he had to pursue music further and thus The Violent Free Peace was born, with a passion for Blues Rock!

REFUNDS NOTICE - Refunds will only be effected should a change in lockdown level prevent the event from taking place.
