2025 marks the 21st edition of the annual South African HORRORFEST film festival & Halloween event!
The exciting diverse Halloween season festival will run at The Labia Theatre across 29 October - 9 November with new, rare and classic movies & short films you're unlikely to see anywhere else, The Makabra Ensemble's live silent film soundtrack performance, Bloody Parchment dark literature event, Halloween dress-up, Rocky Horror Picture Show 50th anniversary audience participation screening, 16mm classic film screening, Halloween dress-up, quiz night and more.

2024 Trailer:
Seventeen events across twelve days included amazing new feature films, documentaries and dozens of incredible short films from around the world, making their Africa / South African premiere at the HORRORFEST (plus a local production with cast & crew attending). We also included special screenings of timeless classics (incl. the live silent film soundtrack performance to the 1911 Italian silent film DANTE’S INFERNO, a special 16mm film projection of the fantastic 1932 movie FREAKS, audience participation screening of THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and a 50th anniversary screening of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE).

But beyond movies there is a special opening night celebration of the festival’s 20th edition; the BLOODY PARCHMENT literature night is back as an in-person event (at Exclusive Books, Cavendish); the live silent film soundtrack night is also the Horrorfest’s Halloween dress-up event with prizes and give-aways, plus more.
