Garden Town

About

Every spring, Stellenbosch opens its garden gates. Garden Town is a ten-day, destination-wide celebration of gardens, creativity and discovery, running from 23 October to 1 November 2026. It is a Stellenbosch Municipality initiative hosted by Visit Stellenbosch.

Step behind the gates of more than 15 private home gardens that are rarely open to the public, and explore more than 10 public gardens, from Tokara, and the Gouws Sculpture Garden to Slee's Meadow Garden near Boschendal. Over 40 workshops, talks, tours and displays cover gardening, biodiversity and sustainable living; including the new Dorpplaas workshop venue, Kayamandi's community vegetable garden and guided walks at Spier.

There's plenty more to enjoy in town as well:

- The Grand Flower Parade (27 October), free to watch and free to join

- The Stellenbosch Street Soirée (28 October), an evening of local food, wine and creativity on Drostdy Street

- The Town Hall Garden Show, Market & Tea Garden (23–31 October), a botanical showcase with more than 70 local makers and vendors, free entry and open every day of the week

Gardens that give back: This year, profits from entry fees to the participating private gardens will be donated to the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS), which celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026. Every private garden ticket helps animals in need in our community.

Come for a day or stay a while, and discover another side of Stellenbosch.
