My Chai Is Strong And So Am I Turning pain into purpose

Healing. Truth. Survival. Strength.

About the book

The beginning of this memoir was written from memory and past experiences which then evolved into a story of lived experience, survival, resilience and lessons learned along the way.

This is the raw, unapologetic story of a woman who spent much of her life believing that love had to be earned, peace had to be negotiated, and her worth depended on how much she was willing to sacrifice for others.

Looking back, the signs were always there. Childhood experiences shaped the beliefs that would follow her into adulthood-teaching her to people-please, tolerate what should never have been tolerated, and confuse endurance with strength. She became the dependable one. The one who stayed. The one who forgave. The one who accepted less than she deserved because it felt familiar.

When she ended her marriage, finding the courage to walk away felt like the greatest act of bravery she would ever undertake. Divorce was not just the end of a 30-year commitment, it was the beginning of a journey toward rediscovering herself. It was a chance to break cycles, heal old wounds, and finally choose herself.

Then came what she believed was her second chance at love and life.

Instead, she found herself trapped in a painful cycle of betrayal, manipulation, and trauma bonding. What appeared to be love became another lesson in survival. The relationship forced her to confront uncomfortable truths about herself, her past, and the patterns she kept repeating. Why do we trust so blindly? Why do we stay when we know we should leave? Why do we mistake familiarity for safety? Why do we continue choosing people who cannot love us the way we deserve to be loved?

With honesty and vulnerability, she explores the hidden wounds that keep us stuck, the fear that keeps us settling, and the emotional conditioning that teaches us to abandon ourselves in pursuit of acceptance.

But this story is not only about heartbreak. It is about motherhood. It is about navigating life's darkest moments while still showing up for your children. It is about the unexpected role reversal that occurs when your children become your greatest source of strength, reminding you every day why you must keep going. It is about learning that resilience is not the absence of pain but the decision to continue despite it.

Through tears, heartbreak, difficult truths, self-reflection, and a healthy dose of humour, this memoir shines a light on the realities of divorce, betrayal, abuse, healing, and personal growth. It challenges readers to examine their own patterns, question their own beliefs, and understand the reasons they are the way they are.

At it's heart, this is a story of reclaiming self-worth, breaking generational cycles, and discovering that the most important relationship you will ever have is the one with yourself.

For anyone who has ever stayed too long, loved too hard, or lost themselves trying to save someone else, this book is both a mirror and a reminder: Your story does not end with your heartbreak. Sometimes it begins there.
