On the Verge

About

‘On The Verge’ is a community greening and gardening project.

Our mission is to enhance the beauty of Noordhoek by creating gardens and planting trees in public spaces and along main road verges that are not cared for by specific homeowners. We are also dedicated to providing job security for our team of men and try to acquire additional work for them in the Neighbourhood

Our team of 7 gardeners can be seen every Wednesday digging, weeding or planting somewhere along the roadsides. We have to date planted about 100 trees and gardened over 35 verges. We help with alien clearing and have extended, maintained and provided signage for various walking and riding paths. We have revamped and maintain the historic Village Lane Post-Office Garden and planted trees in two play parks. We work in conjunction with CCT Nature Conservation, and our local municipality, tackling the public open spaces, opening overgrown paths and greening some of these underutilised and forgotten spaces. We also organise a monthly hacking group removing invasive aliens in the surrounding mountains.

We rely on donations from the public as well as the proceeds of our annual Noordhoek Open Gardens event, to pay the guy’s salaries.
