Serai Dowling
About
Serai Dowling is a Cape Town–based writer, researcher, and mediator whose work explores connection, belonging, and the natural world. She is the author of the bestselling A Guide to Tidal Pools of the Western Cape and A Guide to Wild Swimming in the Western Cape. Her books invite readers to rediscover local waterscapes as places of healing and shared humanity — what she calls “third spaces,” where connection across social divides happens naturally, without design.
An urban beekeeper and passionate sea swimmer, Serai’s work often blurs the lines between art, ecology, and social reflection. Through writing, film, and community events, she celebrates the quiet, everyday ways people come together.
