About Us
Hippopcorn Foundation is a South African cultural and creative development organisation dedicated to using arts, culture, heritage and creative enterprise as tools for social and economic development.
Established in 2023, the Foundation creates platforms that connect emerging creatives, artists, cultural practitioners, entrepreneurs, communities and institutions. Our work focuses on creating meaningful opportunities for participation, skills development, cultural expression, employment and access to creative markets.
We are committed to documenting, celebrating and promoting South African indigenous culture, including music, fashion, cuisine, traditions, customs, visual arts and contemporary cultural practices. Through exhibitions, festivals, workshops, community programmes and cultural initiatives, we seek to ensure that local knowledge and creative expression are preserved, valued and given opportunities to reach wider audiences.
Our Purpose
Hippopcorn Foundation exists to build sustainable opportunities within South Africa’s cultural and creative ecosystem, particularly for emerging artists, young people, women, rural communities and other underrepresented groups.
We believe culture is not only something to be preserved—it is also a powerful platform for education, entrepreneurship, tourism, employment, innovation and community development.

We believe that meaningful cultural development happens when communities are not simply audiences, but active participants, creators, entrepreneurs and custodians of their own stories.
Our Vision
To become a leading South African cultural and creative development platform that contributes to a more inclusive, sustainable and economically active creative sector while preserving and advancing the country's diverse cultural heritage.
Our Mission
To create opportunities that connect culture, creativity, education, entrepreneurship and community development, enabling South African creatives and communities to participate meaningfully in the cultural economy.
