Hlangana Bhaca
About
Hlangana Bhaca Organisation is a recognised civil rights and heritage organisation committed to the cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic empowerment of the AmaBhaca people of South Africa. Rooted in the principles of identity, justice, and heritage revival, the organisation champions the preservation of isiBhaca—an endangered Nguni language spoken primarily in parts of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
Founded as a response to historical marginalisation and cultural erosion, Hlangana Bhaca actively lobbies for the formal recognition of isiBhaca within the education system, while promoting its inclusion in literature, media, and public discourse. The organisation also advances economic upliftment in Bhaca communities through heritage-based programming, education initiatives, and local development strategies.
Its flagship events, including the Bhaca Heritage Celebration held recently at Mofolo Hall in Soweto, draw participants from across South Africa—from Mpumalanga to Cape Town—to celebrate traditional Bhaca dress, song, and dance. These gatherings serve not only as artistic showcases but as unifying platforms to reaffirm a shared identity among Bhaca descendants across urban and rural spaces.
Through advocacy, education, and celebration, Hlangana Bhaca Organisation is building a future in which Bhaca heritage thrives as a vital and visible part of the South African cultural mosaic.
