Jazz Hop concert at the Armchair
About
We’re thrilled to invite you to the upcoming Jazzhop concert at the Armchair Theater in Observatory, Cape Town. This event is a captivating fusion of jazz and hip-hop, celebrating both cultures and movements. The lineup features pioneers of spoken word, including Ndlulamthi, Cape Town's own wordsmith, performing alongside an incredible jazz band.
Also gracing the stage will be Neahtyah, a jazz vocalist and singer-songwriter, and Liso Hockysumie, an incredible hip-hop pioneer of his own caliber, among others. The line up features more.
Jazzhop, a genre born in the 1990s, blends the improvisational elements of jazz with the rhythmic, lyrical flow of hip-hop. Rooted in both African-American musical traditions, it combines smooth jazz melodies with the beat-driven sounds of hip-hop, creating a unique musical experience.
Over the years, artists like A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, and Robert Glasper have pushed the boundaries of this genre, shaping it into the dynamic movement it is today.
