CLUB INFORMATION

https://bit.ly/m/PVSK-INFO

Please take careful notice of trail gradings. This will help you to decide which hike you feel comfortable doing. (See info link for more detail)

Essential Equipment:

  1. Hiking boots/Trail shoes with good grip soles - comfortable not too tight on the toes (Your Nike/Sketches running shoes/sneakers wont work)
  2. Socks - thick trail socks preferrably
  3. Proper Sun Hat - wide brim preferrably - peak caps does not protect the soft part of the back of your neck and your ears
  4. Comfortable day-pack for snacks, water etc
  5. Lightweight Windbreaker
  6. Hiking poles - please consider this - especially in terrain where balance is require

Things to consider on a hike:

  1. Lightweight Windbreaker even if it is warm and Sunny - the weather can turn - and up on the mountain it may be very different to down in the valley
  2. first aid (blister plaster, pain anything else you may need) + emergency (always carry something in case of emergency like a space blanket or a rubbish bag) something may happen, you sprain an ankle or worse and you get stuck on the mountain waiting for help - without emergency you might be in trouble.
  3. Water - never less than 1.5-2Litres 500ml won't work (Good to ad a few kernels of pink salt for mineral replenishment)
  4. Rehydrate - especially if you are not hike fit yet - your blood sugar can dip and you can dehydrate without realising it - you become dizzy

Pro Tip: Practice hills - you will thank me eventually - nobody likes to do hills in the beginining - and even seasoned hikers feel the strain on a steep uphill but once you master the skill you will really start to enjoy hiking with the club.

Best Regards

Happy Hiking - Hope to see you on the Trails
