The Santos Express Train Lodge, a unique and nostalgic destination in Mossel Bay,

South Africa, has recently added a new attraction to its repertoire - the Stage Coach

Theater. This addition is set to bring a whole new dimension of entertainment to the

lodge, presenting real theater and plays for the enjoyment of both locals and tourists.

A Journey Through Time

The Santos Express Train Lodge has a rich history that dates back to December 1,

1994. Initially, the lodge focused on providing accommodation, utilising decommissioned

coaches reminiscent of the seventies' Transkaroo first-class style. These coaches,

overlooking the ocean, offer a genuine train setting that creates a unique ambiance.

Two wooden coaches, built in 1919 and 1921 respectively, were transported by ship

from England to South Africa. They served a luxury rail company until they were

decommissioned and made their last journey by rail to join the fleet at Santos Express

Train Lodge in December 2013. These coaches now boast a colonial feel, authentic

woodwork, private sea-view decks, and ensuite facilities.

Resilience and Expansion

In August 2007, a fire destroyed the train restaurant and offices. However, this setback

led to a resilient effort to reconstruct and restore the authentic atmosphere. The lodge

expanded to include a restaurant, bar, and upgraded accommodations, aiming to

provide the complete experience of staying and dining in an authentic South African

train.

The Stage Coach Theater
