ABOUT US
Vrolike Vinkies Educare is a community based centre, providing Early Childhood Development (ECD) services to the community of Sarepta, Kuils River and surrounding areas.
Started in 1975, through an initiative of Renier van Rooyen, founder of Pep Stores, the centre celebrated its 40th year of existence in 2015. Throughout these years the centre has established itself, and has become known for providing quality ECD services to the community.
Vrolike Vinkies Educare, situated at 34 Iris Street, Sarepta, Kuils River. The building was erected in 1974 by the Barmhartigheidsdienste and the then Dutch Reform Mission Church. Renier van Rooyen donated a large sum of money towards the building costs. The building that houses the centre is appropriately named after him, to honour him for his unraveled support to the community of Sarepta, Kuils River in general and the provisioning of Early Childhood Development Services, in particular.
The centre has undergone a huge transformation since 1980, from a poor community supported centre to an exemplary functioning institution, with good a management structure, financial accountability, and sound parent – centre co-operation and relationships.
The centre is fully accessible to the whole community. It provides valuable services to the disadvantaged, single parent as well as struggling households, with low income levels.
Being a community based organisation, it is governed by the people for the people. The centre is registered as an NPO (107 069), and furthermore enjoys PBO (9300 46694) status as well. The Governing Body consists of competent community members and provides for active parent participation.
The centre is registered with the Department of Social Development (DSD) to provide full day care services to 112 toddlers. It is furthermore registered with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) as an independent school, for the provision of Grade R classes.
