Septober returns to Cape Town with a gathering shaped by deep listening and collective celebration. For this edition, we draw inspiration from Friendship Next of Kin—the rare 1969 recording led by Cape Town-born drummer Selwyn Lissack. This work, created in exile with fellow South African Mongezi Feza and a circle of uncompromising musicians in London, stands as a fragment of history that still signals forward.Rather than staging a reproduction, we let the spirit of this album feed into our present. Across back-to-back vinyl DJ sets, we trace connections between the archival and the contemporary, animating the overlooked frequencies of South Africa’s sound story and placing them in conversation with today’s communal energies.As a circumstantial vanguard of archival uncovery and cultural literacy, Septober continues to hold space where forgotten works can spark new forms of gathering.
