Nature, Environment, Wildlife Filmmaking (NEWF)
About
THE WORLD CONSUMES SO MUCH OF AFRICA’S WILDLIFE AND NATURAL HISTORY BUT BLACK AFRICAN FILMMAKERS ARE RARER THAN SOME OF THE SPECIES CONSERVATIONISTS SEEK TO PROTECT!
There is critical need to for Africa to expose the world to the wealth of her stories, wonders and natural history told through perspectives of her people. NEWF is a platform in Africa for filmmakers, conservationists and scientists to engage, network and contribute through storytelling towards a shared vision of protecting the earths’ natural assets for future generations. What started out as an annual gathering in 2017 NEWF has grown to become and all year round impact and commmunity-centric organization that aims to remove barriers to entry, and build capacity for African nature, environment and wildlife visual storytellers.
Our Vision
The Stories of Africa that celebrate and advocate for the protection of her natural history are told by a connected network of visual storytellers organically led by indigenous African voices.
Our Mission
Remove the barriers to entry and build capacity in order to enable access, support inclusion, expand local audiences and foster a culture of equity for African nature, environment and wildlife visual storytellers.
Launched in 2022, the Africa Refocused program - a collaboration between NEWF and the National Geographic Society - supports the expansion of NEWF, to elevate African storytellers in global media and conversations about Africa, and ultimately address the need to refocus the stories of Africa so they are told by and from the perspective of African people.
NEWF is registered non-profit company is South Africa.
