Stefan Steyn Organist
About
Stefan Steyn embarks his musical studies enrolling as a conservatory student at the North West University of Potchefstroom in 2008, while studying BA Development and management. In 2012 he commenced his full time studies in music, at the same institution. During his studies at the North West University, he also attended master classes presented by the South African Association for Church Organists (SAKOV), and was an active participant in classes presented by Jeremy Joseph (Vienna), Colin Campbell (USA), Mario Nell (Stellenbosch). In 2015 he graduates his BMus degree Cum Laude. September 2015 & 2016 he was invited to attend master classes at the University of the Free State presented by Liesbeth Schlumberger (France, Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon). In 2016 he also attended private master classes with Liesbeth Schlumberger in France, and again in South Africa in the years 2017, 2018, 2019. In 2018 he also attended the Haarlem International Organ Festival in the Netherlands, as an active participant. Stefan completed his Masters degree in organ performance at the North West University under the tutelage of Professor Theo van Wyk (University of Pretoria, organ) and Dr. Chris van Rhyn (North West University). Stefan is currently organist of the Dutch Reformed Church Rondebosch in Cape Town. His musical journey has also garnered within him a great passion for organ building, which has also subsequently led him to art - drawing organs as a favorite pastime. Steyn is the founder of the Friends of the Selway Robson organ in Kommetjie that launched in 2025. The organization aims to promote the one of a kind organ built by Selway Robson and was created to safeguard the future of this precious instrument within the South Africa context.
