EMMY-nominated actor and SAMA-nominated musician, Neil Sandilands, has confirmed he and “The Band” (Schalk Joubert, Frank Freeman & Ronan Skillen) will embark on a nationwide music tour this winter, yet again!
"Last year's epic adventure during July, when we toured from the Cape to Limpopo, performing to audiences often way off the beaten track, was one of the most enriching experiences of my career," says Sandilands, veteran actor known for international television series such as Sweet Tooth, The Flash, The 100, as well as local series Die Groot Niks, Desert Rose & Sewende Laan to name a few. “Yup, 35 years of doing it and counting” he laughs.
This time, the ensemble will dare an even more grueling schedule, touring literally 40 days & 40 nights.
“It might be a record of a different kind, I think. I love this country and its people and am very optimistic about experiences encountered whilst on the road. We get things done ourselves, and it's a privilege to be able to create work in this “soetste” taal.”
The musical offerings will come from Sandilands' well-known albums Sangoma Sandilands & Jou Pa se Posse, Allegaarkie vir ’n Askeet, Die Groot 5, Die Groot Niks, as well as new works, never previously recorded. “It'll be the first time I sing brand new songs “live”, before the release of an album. It’s very exciting!"
The complete tour schedule and online-ticketing will be announced early May, 2024.
"During last year's tour, I noted people were captivated by the adventures of the tour itself and it gained unexpected momentum that way. 'Word of Mouth' is a good thing. It's the most enjoyable thing one can do for oneself this winter. Spoil yourself to an evening of Neil Sandilands & The Band Land & Sand”, he winks. “Land & Sand” is an Afrikaans saying for when people are having a lekker conversation. “Ons gesels Land & Sand”, he laughs.
Sandilands also makes his appearance as Koro in Disney's latest cinematic installment of the Planet of the Apes-franchise: “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”, which will be released worldwide on May10th, 2024.
