Battle Of ISandlwana Memorial Concert And Walk


The Mbuso Khoza Institute for Culture in partnership with the Department Of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and Ijadu Le Afrika Centre for Arts and Heritage presents the Battle Of ISandlwana Memorial Concert And Walk.


The event takes place on 25 January 2025 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.


ISandlwana Walk is a unifying cultural pilgrimage and commemoration of the 1879 Battle of ISandlwana, and is a tool for heritage education and social cohesion. The walk sees artists, youth, writers, community leaders, traditional and political heads, the media, schools and local citizens all walk to the various spots which hold a part of ISandlwana and Zulu Dynasty history.


Held in Johannesburg for the 3rd time, ISandlwana Walk commences at 10am on 25 January 2025 led by Indunankulu Yesizwe SamaZulu, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi and will conclude with an enchanted amahubo music concert at Constitution Hill. The ISandlwana Concert investigates the different aspects and stages of the Anglo-Zulu war in song, poetry and dance, which includes the Battle of Isandlwana, Battle of Rorke's Drift, and Battle of Ulundi. It takes the audience on a seven month long journey of the Anglo-Zulu war, ending on the 4th of July 1879. Thus it is worthy to be immersed in the music that retells the events of the Battle of ISandlwana of on 22 January 1879 and beyond.



LINEUP


World Acclaimed musicians Mbuso Khoza and IJadu Le Afrika will be joined on stage by the remarkable Ann Masina of the hit track Njomane on Shaka ILembe and also by Nomangungu - an award winning griot (vocalist, poet) and Anella Ngwenya who is a vocalist.
