Help Thando go to University!

About

This is Xoliswa Noluthando Khumalo, but everyone calls her Thando. She is from a farming community in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, and has just arrived in Cape Town to start a Diploma in Hospitality & Food and Beverage Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Thando has just arrived in Cape Town and has started going to lectures at the Granger Bay Campus, and for the time being she does not have anywhere to stay, and not much left for uniform, textbooks, transport, board & accommodation.

This is such a massive opportunity for her - she will be the first in her family to get the chance to attend university - but getting here has certainly not been easy. Her parents have worked unbelievably hard and sacrificed a lot to ensure that Thando has been able to attend, finish and do well throughout her schooling career.

Thando is so warm, friendly, and personable, just like her parents! She is going to excel in the hospitality industry.

Being so far away from her home and family comes with many challenges for her, but some of them we can help with!

This is how we have broken down the budget:

Textbooks, stationery & other learning materials for the year: R 2 000

Transport for the year: R 1 200

Uniform for the year: R 2 000

Food & general living expenses for the year: R 24 000

Accommodation deposit: R 10 400

Flight home to see her family for mid-year break: R 3 000 - if we are lucky!
