Sonic Lens: Black People Don't Get Depressed
About
Sonic Lens: Black People Don’t Get Depressed is an immersive live film and sound experience that reframes cinema as a communal act of listening, witnessing, and collective healing.
In this special Youth Day performance, we showcase Black People Don’t Get Depressed by Sara Chitambo—a powerful and deeply thoughtful documentary exploring Black mental health in South Africa.
The screening is followed by a sonic performance and live scoring by the Sonic Lens collective, weaving viola, electronics, and archival audio into an improvised soundscape that expands and deepens the film’s emotional core.
