Eastern Cape Youth Choir
About
The Eastern Cape Youth Choir was established in 1977 and is one of the most experienced and oldest remaining Youth Choirs in South Africa. Since 2020, the choir is under the direction of Gustel Agenbag and later joined by Marliza Taylor as accompanist.
The ECYC is a multi-cultural choir comprising of 75 choristers, represented by 17 schools from Gqeberha and its surroundings. Its main objective is to promote choral music amongst learners from Grade 8-12. Talent is identified, nurtured and given the opportunity to find expression through vibrant performances of a variety of musical genres. A hallmark of the choir is the obvious enjoyment, energy and enthusiasm they bring to each performance.
This year is an exciting year as the choir is preparing to host the annual Prestige concert on 29 August 2025 at NMU South Campus Auditorium, Summerstrand. They will share the stage with the Eastern Cape Junior Children`s Choir(ECjCC) and the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir(ECCC). It promises to be an amazing early evening filled with choral singing by some of the best choirs in the Metro.
The concert commences at 18:30 and tickets are available at R60 per person via Quicket. Limited tickets will also be on sale at the door, as well as programmes.
