Eastern Cape Youth Choir

About

The Eastern Cape Youth Choir was established in 1977 and is one of the most experienced and oldest remaining Youth Choirs in South Africa. The choir is currently under the direction of Gustel Agenbag, since 2021, and Surien Van der Merwe as accompanist.

The ECYC is a multi-cultural choir comprising of about 40 choristers, representing schools from Port Elizabeth and its surrounding towns. Its main objective is to promote choral music amongst learners between the ages of 12 and 18 years. Talent is identified, nurtured and allowed to find expression through vibrant performance of a variety of musical genres. A hallmark of the choir is the obvious enjoyment, energy and enthusiasm they bring to each performance.

This year is an exciting year as the choir is preparing to host the annual Prestige concert on 2 September 2022 at Dutch Reformed Church, Summerstrand, where they will share the stage with the Eastern Cape Junior Children`s Choir(ECjCC) and the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir(ECCC). It promises to be an amazing early evening filled with choral singing by some of the best choirs in the Metro.

The concert commences at 18:30 and tickets are available at R80 per person via Quicket. Limited tickets will also be on sale at the door, as well as programmes.
