Project Bloom

About

We are a Cape Town based social enterprise, creating beautiful reusable sanitary pads and pantyliners in various sizes and pretty prints. Our products are stain-resistant, quick-drying and toxin-free. They provide comfort and protection, and can be used for up to 24 months.

More than 2 million South African girls cannot afford sanitary products. This global phenomenon is known as period poverty, and it directly affects self-esteem and school attendance, creating a lifelong domino effect.

On top of that, South Africa's 19 million menstruating women contribute over 63,000 tonnes of disposable sanitary waste to the landfills annually. That's over 2000 shipping containers full!

As women, we can do better.

Project Bloom provides free reusable sanitary pads to disadvantaged school girls, alleviating period poverty, and improving school attendance. We also encourage ordinary women to replace their disposable pantyliners with our reusable pantyliners. Even the smallest switch to reusable products drastically reduces disposable sanitary waste, and allows for a 75% saving on sanitary products.

Our vision is to effect a paradigm shift in the period perceptions of women, and to make a positive impact on Mother Earth, through education & empowerment.
