The Mutha_Ship presents:Inxwala Slow Market
About
Come join us on Saturday, 4 December at Side Street Studios in Woodstock for the The Inxwala Slow Market, a showcase of African culture, heritage and artisanal goods while enjoying music, fresh produce, organic products, art and handmade craft and design. A space for healing and connecting through different forms of creativity, it’s an alternative space that fosters traditional methods and ways of creating and making. It aims to bring diverse social and cultural groups together.
Inxwala or Incwala, as commonly known, means a celebration of the 'first fruits'. It was practiced at the start of the harvest season by the Nguni people of Southern Africa to gain the blessing of the ancestors and sanctify the kingship. Traditionally, it marked a time of prosperity and brought unity among the people. Our gatherings celebrate the fruits that are the talent our local creative sector has to offer. We gather to give thanks for these and to show each other support in a way that only small business owners can.
