Afribeat Congress

About

Hear ye, hear ye!

The next session of Afribeat Congress has been called to session for the 23rd of April at Love Thy Neighbour on Bree Street.

Afribeat Congress is a night with one goal: To create a space in the heart of the city to celebrate music from across the African continent.

For the next session, our two residents Calabashi (Danielsun) and Shoemaker will open and close the evening but have invited two guests to join them for an evening of music from all across Africa.

Ruben Hazelzet, Dutch pianist and selector, was exposed to music from Senegal, Congo, and Malawi at a young age from his father's travels. Following in his father's footsteps, South Africa has opened up a whole new world of music, and a love for old AfroBeats has only grown stronger. Expect music that will keep you on your toes!

Lirubishi aka Joy Mode is a Cape Town-based DJ, party host, and vinyl collector.

His abilities behind a pair of turntables often extend beyond that of a DJ and lean more towards

being a musical documentarian or storyteller. Be it on the dance floor, at an intimate gathering, or during a

one-on-one conversation with him, the air fills with an energy deeply rooted in the same spiritualism

and free-spiritedness of the music he brings with him.
