About
There is a lineage to everything you have ever moved your body to.
Every bassline that caught you off guard. Every chord that held you longer than you expected. Every rhythm that felt like it already knew you. Trace it back far enough and you will find Jazz sitting at the root — patient, deliberate, and vast. Hip-Hop borrowed its soul. Funk inherited its attitude. Soul carried its feeling forward. R&B softened its edges. Kwaito translated it for the streets of Soweto. The genres changed. The DNA did not.
Beyond Jazz is a celebration of that lineage — and a challenge to anyone who thinks they already know where music begins and ends.
On the 27th of April, djMedicine and BlaqT take over WeedLovers Market in Marshalltown for nine uninterrupted hours of rare vinyl. These are not DJs who scroll through playlists. These are diggers — men who have spent years in dusty crates, in the back rooms of record shops, in the quiet obsession of listening deeply enough to understand why something was made, not just what it sounds like. That understanding is what you will hear in every selection.
The format is simple. No laptops. No shortcuts. Just needle on groove, from 14:00 until the night says enough.
Beyond Jazz is not a genre. It is a philosophy. It is the argument — made entirely through music — that everything you love traces back to one source. djMedicine and BlaqT will spend nine hours proving it.
