ABOUT

Raph Clarkson is a trombonist, composer, improviser and educator. He plays with ska/reggae band The Dualers, whose latest album reached no.11 on the UK charts.

Equal Spirits is a project formed by UK trombonist/composer Raph Clarkson. He aims to celebrate the historic partnership between South African and UK musicians, with a focus on free improvisers as well as the musical connections between the English hymnal and chorale tradition and the joyful melodies and gospel infused harmonies of South African township jazz.

The band's performance in Cape Town follows three days in the studio, which will form the basis of a debut album featuring contributions from South African and UK improvisers, and overseen by Grammy-nominated producer Sonny Johns who has worked on recordings featuring Tony Allen, Hugh Masakela, Ali Fakar Toure and Fatoumata Diawara.

For this performance Raph Clarkson will be joined with Nosihe Zulu on Vocals, Yonela Mnana on Keys, Amaeshi Ikechi on Bass and Siphiwe Shiburi on Drums.

This is a performance that you don't want to miss.

Doors open at 17:00.
