Once again Golden City Rollers (ex C-Max Roller Derby) will be hosting the National Derby Fest at:
UCRDP Portuguese Hall,
64 Eastwood Street,
Turffontein,
Johannesburg
Qualifying games start at 10:00 and the Final will start at 18:00. Come and watch your local Roller Derby league take on their sister-leagues, Cape Town Rollergirls and Durban Derby, in 6 exciting qualifying bouts and 1 Final!
Roller Derby is a full-contact sport played in quad skates on an oval track. Gametime for each bout is an hour long, divided into 2 halves. Each half is divided into smaller 2-minute sections called "jams" when each team will put 5 players on the track - 1 "Jammer" whose task it is to skate through the pack thereby scoring points for their team; and 4 "Blockers" who have to block the opposition Jammer from breaking through the pack, while also assisting their Jammer. This all results in some some breath-taking moments and amazing skating!
