ABOUT

The Cape Town music scene has been evolving in very interesting ways, with the cross pollination of sub genres we've been noticing a new wave of authentic sounds. The kind of music that invokes ones own spirit and leaves us with an everlasting sense of gratitude for having even had the chance to experience it. If you're looking for something different, something original and relevent DONT MISS OUT on this evening of sheer talent and alternative magic.

Lo-ghost:

Lo-ghost is an alt-pop duo from Cape Town. Comprised of Evan Strauss and Shannon Devy, the dual-fronted electronic outfit explores themes of love, loss and the human condition through dark synthesis, deep and danceable electronic beats, and powerful vocal performances. Their fiercely honest song writing utilises accessible pop sensibilities to deliver an affecting and impactful set with a unique and memorable sonic signature.

15 November 2019 marks the release of Lo-ghost’s much-anticipated second album, ‘CULT POP’, which will be available on all streaming platforms through local label, Kudukudu.

After the lush, dark alt-pop of 2016’s ‘There’s Blood In My Body and It Sounds Like This:’, which garnered over half a million organic streams in 2018 alone, CULT POP has Lo-ghost settled into a singular sound that is uniquely their own – a restless, genre-agnostic, groove-heavy niche sonic-scape from which the album draws its name. Gritty and defiant, ‘CULT POP’ is a sleepless expression of an upside-down life, all 3am and neon-flicker: one long, aching night of euphoria, heartache, fury and fear.

In the run-up to the release, Lo-ghost will be putting out a string of singles and the album release will be accompanied by a music video for ‘I Know What You Want From Me’ directed by award-winning animation director and projection artist The Grrrl (Inka Kendzia).

Orah and the kites:

Orah & The Kites are a melancholic alternative folk band based in Cape Town, South Africa. The band formed in 2016 by Ntokozo Mzimela (Keys/Vocals/Guitar) with best friends Teagyn Gracey (Vocals/Saxophone) and Jaimie De Klerk (Synth/Vocals). The trio soon expanded to include Tristan De Beer (Lead Guitar/Vocals) and Kieron Brown (Bass/Vocals/Ableton Live Percussions). Orah & The Kites have played at local venues such as Cafe Roux CBD, The Raptor Room, The Gin Bar and many more. The band has also played at Muizenbergs Concert in the Park in 2017, Garden State Festival alongside Kyp Malone, Dave Depper and Laura Burhenn in 2018, and recently played at the Design Ndaba in 2019.

Each member of the group draws influence from a variety of sources but as a collective, the main influences of sound come from Bon Iver (as well as his project Big Red Machine), Moses Sumney and Florence & The Machine.
