ABOUT

The 9th of August is a public holiday known as 'National Women's Day' in South Africa.

In 1956, 20 000 women came together and marched to the Union Building to petition against the country's pass laws.  The law required individuals defined as "black" under 'The Population Registration Act' to carry an internal passport, known as a 'pass'.  This served to maintain population segregation, control urbanization and manage migrant labor during the Apartheid era.

In the present day, we use this day to celebrate the strength and power of women.

The Agenda Women Summit was conceptualized as a platform that allows women from diverse backgrounds to come together for a cause larger than their individual ambitions, successes and aspirations. Under the theme 'We Are Every Women', we want to create an opportunity for women who have achieved success in different areas of their lives to share what tools and tactics have helped this process materialize.
