Mail & Guardian Gamification - game changer for HR in workplace

Thu Nov 16, 08:30 - Thu Nov 16, 10:30

FNB Conference Centre

ABOUT

Today, HR professionals have to bring out a new game plan to channel the ambitions and cater to the needs of the multi-generational workplace - Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y, also known as Millennials. It has become even more critical, now that the large population of tech savvy millennials are joining the workforce, who are known for being easily bored, unmotivated, expecting everything to be fun and quitting too easily.

But what is this new game? Gamification in the workplace!

Gamification is the process of taking something that already exists – a website, an enterprise application or an online community and integrating game mechanics into it to motivate participation, engagement and loyalty. Gamification takes the data-driven techniques that game designers use to engage players, and applies them to non-game experiences to motivate actions that add value to the organisation.

One approach that is gaining traction within the HR function is to gamify the recruitment process. For example, by asking candidates to play games via an app, HR can use the algorithms to identify their characteristics based on the decisions the candidates make within the game. This does not mean the traditional recruitment approach is failing but gamification can certainly provide insights about the candidate and thus, add value to the process.

There are many more gamification approaches that HR professionals can incorporate into the workplace. By adding gamification principles to the daily activities of employees in an organisation and to the recruitment process, the payoff for business include:
  • Increased levels of employee engagement
  • Accelerate the cycle of feedback
  • Alignment of employee behaviours to the company culture and goals
  • Improved job satisfaction
  • Greater employee productivity
  • Motivate loyalty
  • Higher employee retention
  • Encourage employee interaction, rewards and instant recognition
  • Successful recruitment and talent acquisition
  • More fun induction process into the organisation
  • Make work fun by bringing out the creative and innovative spirit of employees
  • More effective training, learning and development initiatives
  • Establish and sustain a performance culture
  • Distinguish your organisation from the competitors
With this in mind, Mail & Guardian will host a breakfast forum, bringing HR practitioners, industry experts and specialists to provide insights, best practices, overcoming challenges and practical future strategies to leverage on gamification in the workplace.

M&G invites gamification, software, technology solution providers, consultants and specialists to partner in hosting this compelling event. Contact [email protected] for more information on sponsorship opportunities and benefits.
