The Kickstarters - Collaborating Against COVID-19

Heavy Chef's wildly popular evening events are now being livestreamed using the community event platform Crowdcast. During COVID-19 levels of lockdown, entrepreneurs and business owners are requesting relevant presentations that will inspire and empower them for a new, uncertain future.

South Africa has been internationally commended for its treatment of COVID-19. However, it feels like another battle is looming, one that has dire economic consequences. Each day appears to bring more uncertainty, and there is widespread confusion about the strategy to kickstart the economy again. To bring clarity to the conversation, Heavy Chef has invited three of the leading voices on the collaboration between business and government. This livestreamed event is not to be missed.

Speakers:

  • Busi Mavuso - CEO, Business Leadership South Africa
  • Jeremy Lang - Regional GM, Business Partners
  • Karl Westvig CEO, Retail Capital
  • Fred Roed (MC) - Founder, Heavy Chef

Busisiwe Mavuso - Busi is the Chief Executive Officer at Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA); an independent association of the leaders of some of South Africa’s biggest and most well-known organisations, a forum for engaging key players, including civil society and labour, to exchange ideas in the national interest, and to create effective dialogue with government and other stakeholders. Busi is also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of ESKOM; Business Unity South Africa (BUSA); Resultant Finance (a PIC investee company) and serves on the Advisory Committee on Finance & Procurement at the University of Fort Hare.

Jeremy Lang - After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Cape Town, Jeremy spent a few years in accounting and auditing, after which he joined Business Partners Ltd in 2007. He has over 13 years’ experience in the financing and support of small and medium enterprises. His experience covers a range of investments in small and medium enterprises, more specifically in the Risk Finance, Private Equity, Venture Capital and Quasi Equity sectors. He forms part of the executive management team at Business Partners Ltd and is responsible for the overall management of the Inland Unit whose investment activity spreads across Gauteng, Free State, Limpopo and North West Provinces.

Karl Westvig - Karl is the CEO and founder of Retail Capital, a partner of Heavy Chef and one of the most innovative SME credit financing companies in Africa.
