ABOUT

As the leaves start to turn into their rich and varied Autumn colours, the days shorten, and that little chilly breeze reminds us that winter is not far away, The Johannesburg Bach Choir has pleasure in inviting you to share in the warmth of our Autumn Concert series.

Our Autumn Concert 2020 will be presented on three dates:

  • Sunday 10 May, at 09h30, at the St Francis Anglican Church, Parkview (donation requested)
  • Sunday 17 May, at 15h00, at the New Covenant Baptist Church, Orchards (Tickets R170 each)
  • Thursday 11 June, at 19h00 at the St Columba's Presbyterian Church, Parkview (donation requested)

Two well known and loved Bach Cantatas - BWV227 and BWV6 - will be presented at the two Sunday concerts in May, while Thursday 11 June will be an open rehearsal of South African composer's moving and beautiful composition, "Requiem for the 1st peoples".

Soloists for the all three concerts will be the popular baritone Aubrey Lodewyk and the fabulous soprano Magdalene Minnaar. As usual, Maestro Tim Roberts will be at the helm, ensuring a musical experience of quality and enjoyment.

Apart from being a wonderful way to ward off the Autumn chills, the concerts will be the final step in preparation for our tour to Germany, leaving on 12 June, to be the only choir from Africa to participate in the prestigious 2020 Leipzig Bach Festival. Bach Choirs from around the globe gather every year in the city to celebrate the great composers music over a period of 10 days. This tradition stretches back to 1908 when the first festival was held to celebrate the unveiling of the new Bach monument on St Thomas's Square.
