ABOUT

Folklore Fireside

South African Singer-Songwriter Pilani Bubu, presents her third album studio album: Folklore - Chapter 1. She celebrates the folkloric writing styles and music, through a well-curated and intentional journey of powerful storytelling fused with folk songs and spoken word. The first chapter is inspired by her childhood days growing up in the Transkei.

Folklore is the expressive body of culture shared amongst a people, captured through various art-forms inclusive of traditional beliefs, customs, proverbs, sayings, tales passed on through generations by word of mouth. “In this album series, I am looking to treasure traditional folk music, giving it a more contemporary setting, renewed meaning and more context” - Pilani Bubu

She will also be taking us on a journey through her previous albums: Journey of A Heart (2012) & Warrior of Light (2016).

On the bandstand: Luke van der Merwe (Guitars), Bheka Mthethwa (Bass), Lungile Kunene (Drums), Thami Mahlangu (Tenor Saxophone) and Xoliswa Mjekula (Backing Vocals). On the Decks + guitar : House of Kumba (Lerato Lichaba)
