ABOUT
The Rare Disease Society of SA (RDSSA), and Sandton Sports Club are hosting their annual Potjiekos Competition and Family Day on Mandela Day - Saturday, 18 July 2015 from 10h00 onwards.
The fundraising event will see residents from Sandton and surrounds participate in a potjie cook-off, and raise funds and awareness about life-threatening rare diseases.
The cooking contestants will prepare a potjie dish for members of the South African Chefs Association which is recognised as a leading authority on cuisine in South Africa. The judging panel will then score the recipes and once their marks have been tallied, the best pot will win the coveted title and be crowned Potjie King.
Other activities on the day include a Craft Beer Garden for adults with live music and entertainment as well as mini market where products will be on sale to raise funds including the popular ‘Care 4 Rare Bear’, a range of soft toys that are as rare and unique as patients with rare disorders.
As part of their Mandela Day contribution, the bears can be purchased for paediatric patients by members of the public by making a R100 donation. Individuals can also donate the wool needed to crochet the bears.
The potjie competition entry fee is R200 per team of up to ten people and entries close on 1 July.
The Family festival is open to all members of the public at a cost of R10 per person.
The Kids Corner will be open to children between the age of 12 months to 12 years and the ticket price is R10 per child.
Guest are encouraged to bring along the following as part of their Mandela Day contribution:
