Gwen Ngwenya on the DA's policy priorities

Mon Feb 10, 12:30 - Mon Feb 10, 14:30

Grill Room, Kelvin Grove

ABOUT

Gwen Ngwenya – academic, politician and the head of policy for the official opposition Democratic Alliance – will address the Cape Town Press Club on a key policy fault line which she says has led South Africa – and the official opposition – astray. Ngwenya has long opposed the DA's version of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment, arguing that the policy has led to kleptocratic behaviour.

Ngwenya resigned her post as policy head in January 2019, but she returned in November 2019 after the election of Helen Zille as DA Federal Executive chairperson. As a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance in South Africa’s Fifth Parliament, she served on the Standing Committee on Finance. She has also served as COO of the South African Institute of Race Relations, a liberal think tank, and she was SRC president at UCT.

Ngwenya will address the Cape Town Press Club before the Opening of Parliament. She will take questions.
